Why this matters
Most paint failures aren't about the paint — they're about what happened before the brush touched the wall. Getting prep right is what separates a one-time job from a lasting one.
Surface Types
Lesson 3 · Step 1 of 2
1
Drywall → PVA Primer
New drywall is porous. Without PVA primer it'll absorb your first coat unevenly and the finish will look patchy.
2
Bare Wood → Oil-based Primer
Wood tannins bleed through water-based paint over time, leaving yellowish stains on light colours.
3
Masonry → Alkali-resistant Primer
Cement is alkaline and will eat through regular primer. Use an alkali-resistant formula every time.
